DAILY INSPIRATION: MOSES, THE LORD OUR DELIVERER, PART 5

Thank you for taking a few important moments to be inspired and grow in your walk with Christ. May these moments take you one step closer to hearing Jesus say to you, "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant."

As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” --Exodus 14:10, 13-14 NIV

Thought for Today

Now this is the Moses we remember for Sunday School! Pharaoh and his army are thundering down on the people of Israel. The people are terrified. It is a supremely confident Moses who stands up and calls the people to faith and trust. We have watched Moses evolve from a man who wasn’t even a leader in his own family (God called him while he was tending his father-in-law’s sheep), to the leader of a nation. This is how God grows disciples. God calls His servant. He then gives them a task that stretches them. When they faithfully complete the task, He celebrates their faithfulness. Now that Moses is the leader of God’s people he has a new task. His job is now to point the people to God in times of fear and stress. He is to remind them of God’s faithfulness. He is to celebrate God’s victories with His people. Christian leaders have the privilege and responsibility to be the person through whom God works His process in the lives of His people. As you continue reading Moses’ part of God’s story, look for this pattern. Then, think through your role as a leader in your family, neighborhood, work, or church.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful as You work to grow me, and help me to faithful to being used by You to grow others.

DAILY INSPIRATION: MOSES, THE LORD OUR DELIVERER, PART 4

Thank you for taking a few important moments to be inspired and grow in your walk with Christ. May these moments take you one step closer to hearing Jesus say to you, "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant."

So Moses said, "This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the female slave, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well.” --Exodus 11:4-5

Thought for Today

Moses, who had pleaded with God to send someone else, reluctantly goes. By time of the final plague Moses is striding boldly into Pharaoh’s throne room and pronouncing God’s judgment against the gods of Egypt. What has caused this change? Moses trusted the Lord and discovered that He keeps His promises every time. Each time Moses faithfully goes and delivers God’s message, his confidence in God grows. Many of us would like to perform great acts of faith or take great risks for God, but fear holds us back. How do you overcome this fear? By obeying the first time. And then the second time. And little by little, as God comes through time and again, your confidence and faith grow. Soon, you find yourself in a place that just a few years earlier you never would have imagined you could go. This is how God grows faith in His children.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me the courage to trust You this one time, that I may find the courage to follow You the next time. Amen.

DAILY INSPIRATION: MOSES, THE LORD OUR DELIVERER, PART 2

Thank you for taking a few important moments to be inspired and grow in your walk with Christ. May these moments take you one step closer to hearing Jesus say to you, "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant."

"The Lord said, 'I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land.'" --Exodus 3:7-8 NIV

Thought for Today

Have you ever been in a crisis and felt like God did not hear you? Have you wondered why He was taking so long to answer your prayer? I am certain that the Israelites felt that way after crying out to God. From their perspective, God did not seem to be answering them. What was God doing? He was preparing the person through whom His rescue would come. We get to read about the call of Moses and the debate he and God had in the wilderness. The Israelites had no idea it was going on. They were waiting and God didn’t seem to be doing anything. This is how it seems from our human perspective when we wait on God, because God works through means (people, things, creation) to accomplish His will. God would not rescue the people without someone to go for Him and demand their freedom. And convincing and preparing Moses took time. The next time you are crying out to God and are tempted to think that God does not hear you, remember that it takes time to prepare the person God is sending to your rescue, but send them He will!

Prayer

Lord God, when I cry out to You for help, grant me patience and trust knowing that you are at work behind the scenes preparing the one to come in Your name to help. Amen
