DAILY INSPIRATION: IF GOD IS ON OUR SIDE

Thank you for taking a few important moments to be inspired and grow in your walk with Christ. May these moments take you one step closer to hearing Jesus say to you, "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."  --Joshua 1:9 ESV

Thought for Today

The verse for today is one of my favorites in all of Scripture. It is so easy to be frightened and overwhelmed by the situations of life. God calls us to respond differently to them. He calls us to be strong and courageous; to stand firm in our faith. Why? Because we are strong enough to handle it? No way! Because they aren’t as challenging as we think? Nope. They are just as difficult as we imagine. He calls us to be strong and courageous because He is with you wherever you go! He will never leave you nor forsake you. The truth is, you cannot handle the challenges of life, but God can. He will work His plan out through you! So be strong in the Lord and have courage because your Heavenly Father is with you.

Prayer

Lord, help me to be strong and courageous because I am Your friend. I know there is nothing You cannot overcome, which means there is nothing I cannot overcome with You by my side. Amen

Devotional Quote for Today

"Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened."  --Billy Graham

Quote of the Day

"Courage is not living without fear. Courage is being scared to death and doing the right thing anyway."  --Chae Richards

DAILY INSPIRATION; OUR HEAVENLY FATHER

Thank you for taking a few important moments to be inspired and grow in your walk with Christ. May these moments take you one step closer to hearing Jesus say to you, "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant."

Our Heavenly Father

"Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

--Matthew 6:31-33

Thought for Today

I often worry about the things that I think I need. I want to provide good things for my family and I often catch myself feeling guilty for wanting them and worried about how I will provide them. Today’s verse is comforting to me in two ways. First, Jesus acknowledges that I need them. It is easy in our materialistic world to feel guilty for thinking that we need things, but Jesus tells us that God knows that we need them (at least some of them). Secondly, God provides the things that we need so that we do not have to spend our time and energy worrying about them. Instead, we can focus on His kingdom and His righteous because we know that God has the worldly things that we need covered. So take Jesus at His word today, focus on His kingdom and His righteousness and trust that God has all the other stuff covered.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your lavish provision for me and my family. Help me to trust You to provide for the things I need so that I can use my energy seeking Your kingdom and righteousness. Amen.

Devotional Quote for Today

"Our heavenly Father understands our disappointment, suffering, pain, fear, and doubt. He is always there to encourage our hearts and help us understand that He's sufficient for all of our needs. When I accepted this as an absolute truth in my life, I found that my worrying stopped." --Charles Stanley

Quote of the Day

"Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear." --Corrie Ten Boom

DAILY INSPIRATION: LESSONS FROM A FLOODED RIVER

Thank you for taking a few important moments to be inspired and grow in your walk with Christ. May these moments take you one step closer to hearing Jesus say to you, "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant."

Lessons from a Flooded River

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!

                                                --Psalm 29:10-11 ESV

Thought for Today

Here in the Fox River Valley the river has been at flood stage for several weeks. It is a marvel to behold the causeways, trails, and even the islands in the midst of the river completely underwater. This water flows through our little town 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and never seems to go down at all. It is a remarkable amount of water! It reminds me of how growth as a disciple of Jesus works. It takes a great amount of work from the thunderstorms that poured forth upstream to generate what we are witnessing. Nature was working hard in places we could not see to raise our river. Discipleship works much the same way. It takes great effort in places that others cannot see to grow in your faith and life for God. You spend many hours reading the Bible, studying God’s truths, applying them to your life, and discovering their power before others notice that your level has risen. If you do it passionately enough and consistently enough, others will marvel at what appears to be a sudden change. They think your faith and ability have begun to overflow their banks. What others do not see is all the effort that takes place upstream, out of sight, which raises your level for God. What are you doing intentionally to grow in your faith and capacity today that no one will see?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be committed to develop as Your disciple even when no one else sees the work I put in, that as I grow You may be glorified. Amen.

While the river of life glides along smoothly, it remains the same river; only the landscape on either bank seems to change. --Max Muller
