Daily Inspiration: New Beginnings

Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (ESV)

Thought for Today

Why do we make resolutions at the beginning of the new year? Because it is a time when we feel we have a fresh start. New Years are times of new beginnings. So it makes sense to dedicate ourselves afresh. God tells us that we get to start over much more often than every year. He tells us His mercies are new every morning. Each day that you rise you get a fresh start and a clean slate! No matter what happened yesterday, God says it is in the past. What matters is that you make today count. What do you need to leave behind from yesterday (or many yesterdays ago) and what do you need to start fresh today?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the cross, where you won a fresh start for me today. Help me to strive for You today knowing I have a fresh start tomorrow. Amen.

Devotional Quote

Quote of the Day
The beginning is always today. ― Mary Shelley

Daily Inspiration: New Year's Day 2019

Isaiah 30:15

For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”

Thought for Today

Today is marks the beginning of a brand new year. Our God rejoices in new beginnings. The turning of the calendar is always a freeing experience. The days of the year appear empty, ready to be written upon. You can place anything you like in those blank squares. You can fill it with work to be done and overwhelm it with “to do’s,” so that it quickly reflects frantic life last year turned out to be. Or, you can be intentional this year to leave white-space in your calendar. God works in the white-space. It is time where you can be still and know Him. It is time when He can revive your soul. It is space for Him to mold you into the image of His Son. The choice is yours. Your calendar reflects your values. What values will yours reflect in 2019?

Prayer

Lord of the ever turning year, grant be wisdom to make more time for You this year and determination to protect my time with You from all intrusions. Amen

Quote of the Day

Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man. ― Benjamin Franklin

Daily Inspiration: New Year's Eve 2018

Lamentations 3:22-23

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Thought for Today

Tonight is about refection. We look back on the year gone by and consider our lives. If you are like me, you see a lot of missed opportunities, failures, selfishness, in short, sin. 2018 certainly had its share of positive moments, but I have to think for a while before I can recall them. My failures come much more easily. I think this is why God organized our world to have a new year every 365 days. We need a fresh start. We need a place to put a stake in the ground and say, “No matter how I got here I am moving forward.” Isn’t it wonderful that, despite how hard we can be on ourselves, we only have one Judge. God is the only One whose judgement on 2018 actually matters and He is a Judge who delights to show mercy. He looks at the past year of your life through the Blood stained, rose colored glasses, won at the cross and declares it a year of victory! He does not see your struggles, faults or failures. When He looks at 2018, He immediately calls to mind your moments of faithfulness, selflessness, and service. His mercies are new and faithfulness great! Rest, this night, in the mercy of God. Celebrate His work in your life in the year gone by. Look forward to tomorrow when His mercies will be new and His faithfulness for 2019 begins to be revealed.

Prayer

Gracious Lord, I acknowledge my faults and failures in the year gone by and give You thanks and praise for Your mercy throughout 2018. Great is Your faithfulness to me! Amen.

Devotional Quote

I love the Lord, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned His ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live. —Psalms 116:1-2

God's greenest blessings in your New Year! Each of us is an innkeeper and decides if there is room for Jesus. May we all make room for our Savior in 2019!

Thanks for starting my day with God's message and prayer. A day started with prayer seldom unravels.
