Daily Inspiration: Women in Scripture-Elizbeth

Women in Scripture: Elizabeth

Luke 1:24-25 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant…”The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days He has shown His favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.”

Thought for Today

All of us have felt the sting of disgrace in our lives. In many instances our “disgrace” is based upon things that are beyond our control. For Elizabeth, it was the cultural belief that good wives provide children for their husbands. If you could not get pregnant you were seen as defective. Elizabeth prayed for a child until her childbearing years had passed. When she suddenly discovered she was pregnant the first thing she celebrates is that God has taken away her disgrace. Our society tries to dictate what is “normal,” too. You may feel like a disgrace or defective because of things beyond your control. Know this: God never defined Elizabeth by the opinions of the people around her. He was delighted with her just as she was. He answered Elizabeth’s prayer because it was part of His plan. The same is true for you. God does not define you according to what others consider normal. He is delighted with you just the way you are. He may answer your prayers and take away your perceived disgrace, but it is based solely on His plan. He sees no disgrace in you. In fact, He is delighted with you.

Prayer

Loving Father, You know the struggles of my heart. Give me Your eyes to see myself, that I would not be captive to what other’s think I should be, but rather, be everything You made me to be. Amen.

Devotional Quote

My trust in God flows out of the experience of his loving me, day in and day out, whether the day is stormy or fair, whether I'm sick or in good health, whether I'm in a state of grace or disgrace. He comes to me where I live and loves me as I am. — Brennan Manning

Quote of the Day

It isn't a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for. — Benjamin E. Mays

Daily Inspiration: Women in Scripture

Women in Scripture

Genesis 3:6 So …she took of its fruit and ate…

Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;

Thought for Today

Everyone deals with guilt over choices they have made. Each of us has our own list. Imagine the guilt Eve must have lived with knowing that all of her children’s’ struggles were literally her fault. She made the choice that brought sin and rebellion to the human heart. That is a lot to deal with. God, on the other hand, never once blamed Eve. He took the situation in stride and declared that war would ensue and He was personally taking Eve’s side in the conflict. He has made the same choice in your life. God takes your side against sin. He covers it, washes it away, and drops it in the deepest ocean. How blessed we are to that God takes our guilt and shame and nails them to His cross.

Prayer

Blessed Lord, You know all of the guilt that I carry around over the choices I have made in my life. Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to take it away. Give me the strength to release my guilt to Him today, that I might know true freedom. Amen.

Devotional Quote

When you make a mistake and the devil comes and tells you 'You're no good,' you don't have to take on the guilt and condemnation he wants to put on you. No! You can immediately confess your mistake to God, thank Him for forgiving you and cleansing you with the blood of Jesus, and move forward in the victory of His grace and forgiveness. — Joyce Meyer

Quote of the Day

With integrity, you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide. With integrity, you will do the right thing, so you will have no guilt. — Zig Ziglar

Daily Inspiration: The Great Commission Today 5

Our Missionary Calling

Romans 10:14-15

How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?

Thought for Today

Not everyone has the spiritual gift of evangelism, but everyone is sent. The missionary calling belongs to every Christian. God has given you a unique circle of friends who have a lot in common with you. God has placed you in a specific family. There are people that God has placed in your life that He intends to use you exactly as you are to reach. Missions looks like the new mom struggling with her infant and wondering where she will get the strength for today. It looks like your neighbor, whose marriage is in trouble and wants to know if anyone can put the pieces together. Being on mission for God does not mean that every conversation is about Jesus. It is about following the Holy Spirit when He says, “This conversation should be about Jesus.” How else will they know that God has strength and peace for new moms and the power of forgiveness to heal marriages? Are you open to your missionary calling today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me be sensitive to Your Spirit this weekend, so that I will know when I should speak of You and have the courage to do so. Amen.

Devotional Quote

Two lessons which have made sharing the Gospel much easier: We simply can't predict who will or won't be interested in the Gospel, and building a friendship is not a prerequisite to inviting people to learn about the Gospel. — Clayton Christensen

What the world really needs is more love and less paper work. — Pearl Bailey

Romans 10:14-16 New International Version (NIV)

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”[a]
