Daily Inspiration: What Jesus Did with His Downtime 5

Luke 4:16

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read.

Thought for Today

A final thing Jesus did with His downtime was to engage in corporate worship. We began this series discussing how Jesus was sneak off to pray and spend time with His Father. Alone time with God is a powerful thing. It can give you insights into yourself and help you process what is going on in your life. Corporate time with God is a very different thing. When we gather with brothers and sisters in the presence of God it builds us up. The combining of our hearts and voices magnifies the greatness of God among us. We listen to learn and gain insight from the Word of God. We encourage one another, laugh together, cry together, receive God’s gifts together. Paul famously refers to the church as the body of Christ. In this metaphor the individual parts can be strengthened on their own, doing stretches and lifting weights for a specific muscle group. This is what happens in individual time with God. You are personally and individually built up and made stronger. However, it is when the parts of the body work together in combination that they generate the most power and have the greatest strength. These is what happens in corporate worship. We work together to do powerful things for the building of God’s kingdom both on earth and in our hearts. For Jesus, corporate worship was a part every week. Wherever He was, He found a place to worship on the Sabbath. You should make time this weekend to do so as well. Immanuel will gather together at 8 am this Sunday morning to sing, pray, praise and learn together. Music will be led by our Youth Worship Band. You can find the link at www.immanulebatavia.org. Each week you can find the service there. You can access the service anytime that week. I hope to worship with you this weekend.

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me the importance of worship by being present there with Your people. Gather with me this weekend so that I can worship You and worship with You. Amen.
