Luke 15:11-12

Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

Thought for Today

The younger son is tired of serving his father like a slave. He longs to be his own man, to make his own fortune, to live life according to his own rules. Have you ever been that self-centered? I have. The real shock here is that the father agrees not just to let him go, but to give him his share of the family fortune! This is how God treats us. We have the right to demand our share and live our way. It may break his heart, but He will give you the right to be your own man or woman. God offers us this gift of free will out of the heart of love and the hope of a true Father that, when we realize the error of our ways, we will see just how generous His care was all along. Who are you serving with your free will?

Lord God, You have given me a great and terrible gift in the freedom of my will. Help me to desire the things that bring joy to Your heart and choose to serve others with the life You have given me. Amen.

Devotional Quote for Today

“It is not reason which turns the young man from God; it is the flesh. Skepticism but provides him with the excuses for the new life he is leading.” ― Aurelius Augustine
