Daily Inspiration: Surrendering for Lent

Romans 5:8

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Thought for Today

One of the most powerful ways we demonstrate love is through self-sacrifice. It is, at least in part, why we give things up for Lent. God was so focused on having a relationship with you that He gave up His Son to overcome everything that kept you away from Him, and in doing so showed us how much He loves you. We want to demonstrate to God how much we love Him by imitating Him. As you consider showing God you love Him through sacrifice this Lent, remember that it is not about giving up something you should not have (sweets, fast food, etc), but giving up something that will allow you to focus more on your relationship with God. What can you give up (or take up) for the next 36 days to help you spend more time with God?

Heavenly Father, I give You thanks and praise for all you gave up to make me Your child and show me Your love. Be glorified as I sacrifice ____________ so that I might know You more nearly and love You more dearly this Lenten season. Amen

Devotional Quote

Before we can begin to see the cross as something done for us, we have to see it as something done by us. John R.W. Stott
