Psalm 91:1-2

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Thought for Today

From the time many of us were children we were taught what to do when there was trouble. Call 911. This is good advice biblically, too. When trouble comes, look up Psalm 91:1 and you will hear the comforting voice of God speak into your circumstance. We are in a unique moment in history. For the first time, our growing global connectedness has allowed us to respond to a new illness more proactively than ever before. However, because we are not used to being proactive, many are responding with fear. Whether it is in the stock market or the toilet paper isle, panic is causing more problems than the disease we are fighting. As people of faith, this is our moment to shine. We do not have to be afraid. We have a refuge and fortress in our God. Our confidence is in Him. We can rest in His shadow in times of fear and uncertainty because He loves us. He has proven it at the cross of Jesus. He has already given you eternal life and a place in His Kingdom which has no end. We can put our trust in Him at this time knowing that no matter what happens we are His and our lives are safe in God’s hands. More than this, we have a calling. We can shine in this moment because we are a people called to care for our neighbors in moments like these. By staying apart we are keeping the disease from spreading to their homes. We can provide for those who are in need, especially at a time when staying home means a loss of income for many. Take this opportunity to see what doors of ministry God opens for you and your family. God always uses crises like these to show the world His love, and He does it through us. We are the Body of Christ. Together God changes our world.

Heavenly Father, in this time of fear, help me to put my trust in You, knowing that I am covered under Your shadow. Help me to see the opportunities these days open to serve my neighbors in Your name. Amen.

Quote of the Day

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'
