Daily Inspiration: Friendship and Forgiveness

Luke 5:20

When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

Thought for Today

Jesus is sitting in a house filled with people. In the middle of His lecture a paralyzed man is lowered through the roof in the hopes that Jesus will heal him. In a house filled with people the only one Jesus calls friend is the one who can do absolutely nothing to earn Jesus friendship. He is paralyzed. All he can do is lay there and hope for mercy. Jesus looks on him as sees a person worthy of His friendship. That is the way it is with us too. We have very little to offer Jesus that would be worthy of His respect and friendship. Yet, by His own gracious determination He has looked upon you and sees a person worthy of His friendship. He looks upon you and says to you the very same thing He said to the paralytic, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” What a friend we have in Jesus!

Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me “friend.” Thank you for forgiving my sins and making me worthy of a friendship I could never deserve. I love you, Jesus, and am honored to call you “friend,” too.

Great news! In fact, the absolute BEST! And of course, that we are loved by Father God, that much!
