Isaiah 40:31

“…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Thought for Today

How are you doing? I have been surprisingly tired these past two weeks. I was on a conference call when President Buss made a profound statement. He told us that he was exhausted. Not because he had more work to do than before, but because everything he was doing was new. That was when the lightbulb went off for me. Everything we are doing is new. We have to think through every aspect of every encounter, conversation, and plan we are making. Like most of you, we were a very busy family. The kids are going from activity to activity. Amy was finishing her schooling. I was working once a week on Sunday 😉. Suddenly we are all home…all at the same time…all the time. We are figuring out how to use our space. We are figuring out distance learning. We are figuring out online meetings and services. It is exhausting. How can we keep this up for another month or more? We need to stay connected to Christ. God tells us that he has the strength we need. Jesus declares, “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden. Take my yoke upon you. For my yoke is easy and my burden is lights” (Matthew 11:29-30). God promises that if we keep our hope in Him, He will renew our strength. We will be able to continue without growing weary or being overwhelmed. When we try to do all of these new things in our own strength we quickly exhaust our strength. When we do all things through Christ we find the strength we need. Find some time each day to get away with God. Turn off the screens and distractions and seek His face. He will refresh your spirit and give you the strength sufficient for each day.

Prayer

Blessed Jesus, I am trying to do too much on my own these days. Grant me the strength and wisdom to come to You each day, that I might soar in Your renewing strength. Amen.

Devotional Quote

Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done. ― C.S. Lewis, Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer

Quote of the Day

The problem is not entirely in finding a room of one's own, the time alone, difficult and necessary as that is. The problem is more how to still the soul in the midst of its activities. In fact, the problem is how to feed the soul. ― Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Gift from the Sea

It's always good to see/hear from others our mutual problems, to feel comfort in knowing we aren't alone. Your bottom statement is the best! "He will refresh your spirit and give you the strength sufficient for each day." A much welcome reminder!
