Daily Inspiration: Encouraging Words for Trying Times 1

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12

“For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”

 

Hebrews 13:15

[God] has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

 

Thought for Today

I asked my daughter Jocelyn what I should do devotions this week and she said, “We need to hear some words of encouragement from God.” Brilliant! So, this week we will be listening to some words of encouragement from Scripture. Paul reminds us that this is actually part of our job. In challenging times like these we need to be encouraging, comforting, and urging each other to live lives worthy of God. I can’t think of anything more encouraging than God’s promise never to leave us nor forsake us. God knows what you are going through. He knows what you will face this week. He knows the unique challenges these circumstances have created, whether you are a child trying to adjust to distance learning, a parent trying to figure out how the heck they do math today, or a senior stuck inside and unable to connect with the people who are usually part of your life. Each and every one of us is faced with unique challenges. You need to know that God is with you. He is right by your side with all His power, wisdom, and strength. He will not abandon you in the midst of the struggle this week. So, take heart. You are not alone. God is right by your side. Prayer

Thank You, Lord God, for telling me that You are with me. You know how crazy this is for me right now and how uneasy I am about the uncertainty of the days ahead. Just knowing that You will be with me gives me comfort and peace. Please keep reminding me of this great promise this week. Amen.

I have decided to text a bible verse to my grandchildren everyday so that they have to look it up and read. They have to be struggling with e-learning!

Wednesday, as I walked past our front door, I noticed people in our driveway. It was our daughter Katey with Arianna and Sofia. They were chalking our driveway. First message read:WE Love You! STAY HOME! Remember Germs are not your friend. ( Although Sofia had left out the r in germs and had to squeeze it in). The last message was :Deuteronomy 31:8
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” I guess this crisis we’re going through is forcing us all to come together away from all the self induced stresses our culture pounds on us. We are taking the time again to enjoy our families, our houses, the stillness.
